Philosophy
To feel safe, I believe we need to feel seen, supported, and accepted by others. When we feel safe, we can be vulnerable, confident, and courageous.
When we bring awareness to our thoughts, feelings, and body sensations, we can gain insight into our internal experience. This insight can help us understand our needs.
When we can voice our needs and use grounding exercises to calm ourselves, we can handle discomfort and navigate difficult situations. In other words, we can learn to trust ourselves.
Clinical Approach
As your therapist, I will make sure you feel heard, respected, and supported. I will be curious, and never assume I know what you need.
I use systems theory, attachment theory, and mindfulness to guide my work. My treatment modalities are Internal Family Systems (IFS) and Emotion-Focused Therapy (EFT).
I believe oppression and inequality result in the causes and/or consequences of many clinical problems, and I am committed to emphasizing the connection between social injustice and internal suffering in my work. I approach my work with humility, and continuously question how my social location and lived experience shape my clinical practice.
I am supervised by Lori Henry, MA, LMFT and Silvana Espinoza Lau, LMFT. (R7131)
